Green Lake

Green Lake lives up to its name—its brilliant emerald and turquoise waters shimmer thanks to mineral-rich, shallow basins. Those sun-soaked shallows create one of the region’s best swimming lakes. Just northeast of 70 Mile House in the Land of Hidden Waters within Secwépemc (shi-huep-muh-k) territory, this lake stretches an impressive 14 km (8.7 mi) long and 1.5 km (0.9 mi) wide, with 57 km (35.4 mi) of shoreline to explore. Road trips around the lake reveal ever-changing vistas, quiet coves, historic ranchlands, and peaceful provincial park settings that make this southern Cariboo gem perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Green Lake is one of the larger bodies of water in the southern portion of the Cariboo.

Canim Falls & Trails

Canim Falls is a 25 meter high waterfall on the Canim River between Canim Lake and Mahood Lake in Wells Gray Provincial Park.  The waterfall has eroded steadily upstream and created a 4 k (2.5 mi) long canyon cut into a lava plateau associated with the Wells Gray-Clearwater volcanic field.

Both Canim Falls are fed by the Canim River. The river splits into 2 channels several hundred meters above Canim Falls.  In times of high flow, the north channel that feeds Mahood Falls overflows causing several small waterfalls on the north canyon wall at Canim Falls.

A trail Mahood Lake Road leads to a viewpoint of Mahood Falls and Canim Falls.  At Canim Falls, an island in the midstream river creates two waterfalls.  The southern waterfall (closet to the viewpoint) is much smaller than the main waterfall and is typically dry by mid summer.  The larger than the main waterfall and is typically dry by mid summer.  The larger waterfall runs throughout the year.

“Canim” means a type of large canoe in the Chinook Jargon.
